First Rule of 2017 Summer: Shorts are an essential element for maintaining your cool
Topo Shorts

Topo Shorts

Not that long ago, wearing shorts anywhere outside of the beach was considered to be a bit of an amateurish move. Thankfully, no more. In fact, we think wearing shorts during the summer should be a natural part of how we dress during the Summer. Practically, shorts are welcome alternative to denim or other less-breathable options. Shorts embody what we love most about summer — an airy, less uptight approach to life. That’s not to say we don’t love playing with elements of pattern and details that make us subtley stand out from the crowd and look sharp.

Shown to the right, the cool, tonal texture that are well-suited for time outside that naturally pairs well with a tee, but also with a short sleeve button-down (think something like the Sand Bar Dobby or Sun Border Shirt) and a cool, casual finishing touch — like our Boathouse Sneaker

You know the mood best, but quite frankly we’re big advocates of wearing shorts to work or out for date night. And there’s no reason why you can’t show ‘em how it’s done with the crisp clean lines of the Top Shelf Linen Shorts as they give a refined look (just like a trouser might). We say, why not adopt a more Mediterranean way of life by embracing a more carefree approach to your day. Pair these shorts with a sharp buttondown shirt like our light Effortless White Shirt or more colorful Linen/Cotton Chambray Shirts — and our Lark Loafer and sunglasses. The finishing touch of a vintage convertible sportscar, altough an extra nice touch isn’t essential.

Our Summer Collection has some strong contenders to step up your short game — for any time of the week.

Tradewind Shorts
We love the textures we play with in the design of our dobby shirts, so we thought why not design a short that borrows from that technique. Made from all cotton, the Tradewind Shorts are soft and so comfortable — they’ll easily become shorts you grab for first. The textural, almost linen-like drape of these shorts will instantly upgrade your look even when paired with your most broken-in tee. They’re refreshing in the sense that they don’t read like swim trunks and feel wonderfully grown-up, but 100% summer-ready. And best of all they pair perfectly with a tee at a BBQ or dressed up with a button-down.

Cargo Shorts
There’s no doubt about it — guys love cargo shorts. And for good reason: they’re practical for anyone who might need to carry stuff like keys, a phone or that weekend project list around. But cargo shorts can also be a tricky situation — if they’re too long or their pockets too generous, you’ll be tugging at the waist as they can quickly become too heavy. Thankfully carbon2cobalt’s Cargo Shorts have been designed to combat that with just the right inseam length, strategic cargo pockets that aren’t going to become overloaded saddle bags — and a drawstring to ensure the perfect fit.

Sun Sessions Shorts
At this point, we’ve made our case that shorts belong in a guy’s wardrobe throughout the Summer. They can be dressier and still make you stylishly sharp or textural and super cool without making you look like a kid. But we also think that if you don’t also own a pair of standard issue — go-everywhere shorts, you’re also missing a critical element to your wardrobe. Our Sun Session Shorts are a prime example — they’re washed down to a broken-in perfection and happily feature enough pockets for all your stuff — and they’re at a great length (not too short). Quite frankly, these are the shorts we’d grab first to throw in an overnight bag and go wherever the road takes you.

The truth is — you can’t go wrong with any of carbon2cobalt’s shorts for summer. They all have a thoughtful, functional design along with unique details that step-up your game and make you look great.
